Leather
More and more cars have leather seats instead of fabric. While most of the older cars have real leather, the newer car models often have artificial or vegan or synthetic leathers. The latest ones have perforated seats that allow heating and cooling of leather seats. All these kinds of seats are vulnerable to various kinds of damages, from entry and exit side of the drivers seat, to rear seats with children, pets, household goods, carrying food and drinks etc.
Even if a car owner is very careful with leather seats, weather changes, excess hot and cold inside the cars, can cause damage over time. Car interiors can get very hot in summers when not in use and can get very cold in winters. This is not great for leathers generally. Hence these require a fair amount of maintenance and get damaged, wrinkled, torn, flaky after a few years of use.

The procedure for repairing damaged leather of any kind starts with identifying what kind of material we are dealing with, the extent of damage, how deep the damage is and establishing the exact colour.
We use a system to recreate similar strength of cushioning if the cushion inside is damaged, we then create the surface using similar material to existing leather, real or imitation leather. We also recreate any patterns, textures of finishes used, so that the repaired part is not smooth, but feels consistent, a part of the existing seat.
This way we can repair the seat as if no damage ever occurred. We make it look like it would have looked before the damage took place.
Ideally, leather damage should be repaired as soon as it takes place. This is because if it is ignored, it can easily enlarge with usage and spread to other sections of the seat by creating different pulls and pressure points than designed and stitched for. Once the damage goes deeper and wider than it is feasible financially to fix it, then the viability of any repair work becomes questionable and it could be cheaper to replace the entire leather from the seats.

Our leather repair process:
If the damage is small, and there is no cushion damage, we can most likely restore the leather using methods to recreate the leather, matching the colour and finish and recreate the exact texture from surrounding areas and applying to it.
But if the damage is large or if there is cushion damage, it would require more methods and recreating the damaged cushion and recreating larger sections of textures. For recreating the cushion, leather and matching colour and textured, we use various methods and steps.
- First the damaged areas is thoroughly cleaned, all dirt, debris, loose materials are removed. This preparation work ensures identification of the entire damaged parts and prepares it for further work.
- If the cushioning is damaged, a filling is prepared to fill the area with cushioning of similar strength. We then take imprints of the existing surrounding texture and a reading for the exact colour to be recreated.
- Then we recreate the leather using a blend of compounds, apply the same colour on to it and finally the same texture as the surrounding area to blend it perfectly.
